“We were Katrina evacuees. Moved to Killeen, Texas but I’ve lived in Atlanta, Maryland, New Orleans, but Killeen is the place I call home. We’re a family of teachers. My mom, dad, and stepmom are all teachers. I’ve been playing sports my whole life but I’ve been in love with art since I was a kid. I would always pray, ‘God please make my art come to life’ and now I can actually do it. My senior year of high school was a dark time because I didn’t know what I was going to do or where I would go to school. We couldn’t afford it so I had no choice but to utilize my athleticism by playing football so I could go to college. I got a call from Coach Schenk, the defensive coordinator and he set me up for a visit. They offered me a scholarship that no other school could match. I’ve grown so much as a person since I’ve been here. SNU is a small school so everything feels family oriented. The professors make you feel like you matter. You can tell they love what they do and really want their students to succeed. I love getting to work on my art here and become a young renaissance man.”
